Terms of Service

Last updated August 15, 2026.

These terms cover your use of diet.chat. Most of the site today is the waitlist, so the sections about accounts and billing describe how things will work when accounts open rather than something you're agreeing to now.

The waitlist

Joining the waitlist means we'll email you about early access and about the product before it opens. It isn't a purchase and it isn't a promise of a launch date. You can leave at any time from any email we send, and we'll delete your entry on request.

Your account

You're responsible for keeping your login details secure and for what happens under your account. Accounts are for individuals. You must be 18 or over to use diet.chat — this is not a service for children or teenagers, and we'd rather say that plainly than bury it.

Your data

What you log is yours. You keep ownership of it, you can export all of it including your photos at any time on any plan, and you can delete it. You grant us only the permission needed to store it, show it back to you, and operate the features you use. See the privacy policy for how it's handled.

The AI features, and what they are not

diet.chat uses a language model to turn what you write into structured entries and to answer questions about your own record. Two consequences worth stating plainly:

  • Models make mistakes. An entry may be parsed wrong, and an answer may be wrong. Everything is editable, and where a figure matters you should be able to check the entries behind it — that's why the tools show their working.
  • The numbers in answers are counted from your entries rather than generated. That's a design decision rather than a guarantee, and it doesn't make an answer a fact about your health.

diet.chat is not a medical device, a diagnostic tool, or a source of medical, nutritional or psychological advice. It does not diagnose, treat or monitor any condition. Nothing it produces is a substitute for a doctor, a registered dietitian, or a therapist, and no pattern in your log is a diagnosis.

Eating disorders

Food and weight tracking is not safe for everyone. For some people — and this is well established rather than a legal formality — tracking food, calories or weight makes disordered eating significantly worse.

  • If eating feels out of control, or you are restricting, purging or using laxatives, please talk to a GP or an eating disorder service. Beat in the UK and NEDA in the US are reasonable places to start. These are treatable conditions with real evidence behind their treatment, and this app is not that treatment.
  • If you are in treatment and have been asked to keep a food record, diet.chat is built to be usable for that — no targets, no scores, no streaks — but your clinician's guidance outranks anything here, including whether to use it at all.
  • If tracking is making things worse for you, stop tracking. We would rather lose the account.

Diets, protocols and medication

Some pages on this site describe named diets — fasting, low carbohydrate, keto and others. Those pages describe protocols people follow; they do not recommend them, and diet.chat does not design, prescribe or supervise a diet.

  • Several of these approaches interact with medication. Fasting and carbohydrate restriction can cause low blood sugar in anyone taking insulin or similar medication. Doses and timing are decisions for the clinician who prescribed them.
  • Nothing here should be used to decide whether to start, stop or change a medication, or to replace a treatment that has been prescribed to you.
  • If you have a diagnosed food allergy, this is a record — not a safety system. What keeps you safe is checking with whoever prepared the food.

Prescribed medication, including GLP-1s

Some pages describe eating alongside a prescribed medication. Those pages are about food, and they are complementary to your treatment rather than part of it.

  • diet.chat does not advise on dose, timing, brand or formulation, and does not suggest starting, stopping, pausing or changing anything. Those are decisions for the clinician who prescribed it.
  • It is not monitoring. Bloods, weight checks and reviews are your clinic's; a log is something you bring to them, not a replacement for them.
  • Marking that something changed on a date is a note you make for your own reference. It is not a medication record and should not be treated as one.
  • We do not supply, source or help anyone obtain medication in any form.

Symptoms that need urgent attention need it from a person, not an app. Severe abdominal pain that spreads to your back, vomiting you can't settle, or being unable to keep fluids down are all reasons to contact your prescriber or urgent care rather than to write an entry.

Photos

Photos you upload should be of food. Don't upload photographs of other people who haven't agreed to it, and don't upload anything you don't have the right to store. We don't analyse photos for anything except being a record of a meal, and we don't use them to train models.

Connected assistants

You can connect third-party clients over MCP. Each gets a scoped, revocable token. What that client's provider does with your conversation is governed by their terms rather than ours, and you're responsible for which clients you grant access to. We can revoke a token; we cannot reach into someone else's product.

Acceptable use

Don't use diet.chat to break the law, to store data about someone else without their knowledge, to resell access, or to attack the service. We may suspend an account that does — and if we do, you can still export everything in it.

Billing

Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, in USD. Cancel any time and access continues to the end of the period you've paid for. Yearly plans cancelled mid-term are refunded pro-rata. Founding accounts keep the rate they joined at for as long as the account stays active — if the price goes up later, theirs doesn't.

Availability

This is a small service run by one person. We'll keep it up and take backups seriously, but it's provided as-is, without a service level guarantee. If it's ever going away, you'll get notice and time to export, rather than a login screen that stops working.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you've paid us in the previous twelve months. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law.

Changes

Material changes will be emailed to account holders and to anyone on the waitlist, rather than appearing quietly with a new date at the top.
