What we won't do
Some things aren't a pricing tier
Worth being explicit about, because in this category they usually are.
Your export is not premium
Every plan, including free, exports everything you've ever logged. An app that holds your food history hostage is an app you were right not to trust with it.
Your history doesn't expire
No 30-day window on the free tier. The entire value of a food log is that it gets more interesting the longer it runs, and truncating it to sell an upgrade is a strange thing to do to someone's year.
No ads, ever, and no data sales
The business model is the subscription. What you eat is not a product, isn't sold to anyone, and isn't used to train a model. In this category that sentence is worth reading twice.
Questions
About the money
Why is the photo journal on the paid plan?
Storage and processing cost real money per user per month, and text entries don't. Putting the recurring cost on the recurring plan is the honest way round — the alternative is a free tier that gets quietly worse as it grows.
What does "founding rate" actually mean?
The price you join at is the price you keep, for as long as the account stays active. If the plan goes to $8 next year, yours doesn't.
Is there a trial?
There's a free tier instead, which is better than a trial — it doesn't expire, and you can sit on it indefinitely while you decide whether the habit sticks.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
You keep the free tier and everything you've written stays. Photos beyond the free allowance are exportable before anything is removed, and we'll tell you well before that happens rather than after.
Do you offer anything for dietitians or clinicians?
Not yet, and it's one of the things we're listening for. If that's you, say so in the last box on the signup form — the shape of a professional tier should be decided by people who'd actually use it.
